Earlier on in the summer I attended the Cindy Sherman photography Exhibit at the SF MOMA.

Review:

Cindy Sherman's groundbreaking photography thoroughly revolutionized the art of the self-portrait. Throughout history, the self-portrait has been a tool that artists have used to portray their own feelings about themselves and their lifestyle by creating a piece of art portraying themselves. For example, in the world of photography, famed filmmaker Stanley Kubrick created a self-portrait of himself head-on in a mirror not hiding the camera at all, dressed in a suit, looking into the frame. Cindy Sherman however uses the self-portrait as more of a theater piece of art work. She creates and displays characters male and female using her own makeup techniques and her own artistic style to make the characters real.

The exhibit was an amazing collection of her work from the 1970's when she made black and white self-portraits mocking classic film stills to the present day using photoshop and and other digital effects in her artwork. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit and would recommend it to anyone interested in alternative portrait photography.
